Wow! It’s been an amazing week. I have met so many new bloggers. It is so inspiring to connect with strong, confident women, telling it like it is in their blogs and sharing their inner most feelings.
A recurrent theme seems to be change. And I don’t mean of the physical kind, though many blog about that too. I am struck by how many are making huge life changes. Everyone is quitting their jobs. Who the heck is going to woman the forts?
It’s scary. I know. I quit my job just over a year ago. But with some planning and patience, you CAN make it happen. If you are risk averse like I am, you can read these tips I wrote earlier in the week to help you start the process.
Some are chalking it down to a midlife crisis but I don’t think it is. I think you get to a certain age and realize that you don’t want to be defined by your job, material things don’t matter and time is finite. Midlife women are no longer content to squeeze in a couple of hours of life here and there just to collect a pay check and buy more stuff that yields but a few moments of happiness.
The first fifty years are like having an extended vacation at home. There is always tomorrow, so let’s just put that off. After fifty, you realize that you can’t keep putting things off. You want to start living in the now. There might not be a tomorrow. I’m not trying to be morbid. Your health declines as you get older and you don’t know when the day will come when you can no longer physically do certain things.
Purpose. Happiness. Serenity. Contentment. It is interesting that those are the words used for why these women are making changes. These women are all trying to capture a feeling. A feeling that can only come from the inside not from the shopping channel.
Well, I say Bravo! Good for all of you taking the plunge, moulding your future and taking control of your own happiness. I wish you all the best of luck.
