How To Start A Bullet Journal

Hi. My name is Elena and I have an organization problem.

There I said it. I know that may come as a shock to some of you and I always find it amusing when another blogger thinks I have my shit together. Trust me. I don’t. Or should I say didn’t…

I have tried a million organizers, planners, calendars and phone apps but nothing seemed to stick for me. I would have a dozen or so notebooks for different facets of my life and business going, post it notes plus little to do lists shoved in my wallet. A total dis-organized mess and I could never find the information I needed or have the right notebook with me if I was out and about.

If you love the idea of a bullet journal but are unsure how to start or feel over-whelmed, check out this blogger's bujo.

Until I found this new phenomenon called, a bullet journal. It has been a little over a month now that I have been consistently using my beautiful, pink bujo and I am in love! It was hard at first, but now I just instinctively put absolutely everything in there. Notes, to do’s and most important of all, my business trackers. I don’t know how I lived without it and was able to juggle all my clients plus manage their pinterest accounts.

No more hunting around, wasting time and losing my mind. The size is perfect and it fits in my purse so where I go, it goes.

If you have never heard of a bullet journal, check out this video by the creator, Ryder Carroll.

Let me be clear that I am very far from being artistic and creative so I mimic the original format very closely. That said, I am always looking for simple adaptations like this one by Emma of Blu Chicken Ninja. Click through below to see images from inside her bullet journal.

It’s the start of a new year, the perfect time to get organised so I thought I would do a little post on how to start using the bullet journal system. The bullet journal system was originally invented by Ryder Carroll, you can find his video on it here. This system is essentially a fancy […]

  1. Thank you for writing about this form of journaling. I have an electronic calendar, a gratitude journal, a gardening book, a menu guide, etc. etc. etc. But nothing is together! Maybe this will help me. Some of the other You Tube videos are so artistic, but do not think I have the time for that!

    1. Updating….two months into bullet journaling and I am hooked! I decided to go back and rewrite my journal from January and am now current on my progress. My productivity has increased dramatically! I am not forgetting things, I am so much better tasked with my time, AND I am finding this creative outlet that is calming me. I just love how there is no wrong way to do this! I have a page for gratitude, a page for scrapbooking for the week, sometimes I have a page for doodling or dreaming, places for quotes, and then I write. MY journal is heavy in writing, but I know others prefer more artsy or professional. All that is ok! Love the permission to be me! I have made plenty of typos and blunders and that’s ok too! Life is a learning experience. If it doesn’t work I just do something different the next month.
Elena, the next time you sit down to write and wonder if you are doing something impactful with your words, know that you are. Because of this article that YOU wrote, I am getting a better grip on my days. Thank you so much!!!
