New year. New goals. New wins.

I’m sure that is your hope for the new year and your blog. Whether you are a beginner or have been blogging for years without much success, I bet you are dreaming about 2019 being “the year” it all comes together for you, the year your blog goes from hobby to business and starts making money.

I’m sure you have fawned over many successful blogs and bloggers and dissected what it is that stops you from being one of them.

Maybe you think you need a lucky break, like a post going viral.

Maybe you believe some course you can’t afford holds the key.

Or maybe, if you had a team, you think you would have enough time to do everything you need to do, and that will help you make money blogging.

Here’s the truth. It’s not any of those things.

The Most Important Thing You Need To Do To Make Money Blogging In 2019

If you dig deep into the backgrounds of any of your favourite bloggers, you will probably find a very similar history of their blogs in the beginning to yours. And this is an important thing for you to know. It should make you feel better knowing that they went through the same struggles as you are probably experiencing right now.

So what was the turning point for many money making bloggers that can help you move the needle?

It’s simple really.

Owning it.

Say what?

You heard me. Owning it. In other words, believing and acting like your blog IS a business.

Tell me, have you ever said any of the following:

•Blogging is just a hobby for me right now.
•I don’t really care if I make money but it would be nice.
•I’m happy with my blog and if it’s meant to go big, it will.

Firstly, if any of those statements are what you really feel inside your heart, then good for you, keep doing what you are doing.

But, and here’s the big BUT: if you are saying those things (to yourself or to others) to justify where your blog is right now and the truth of the matter is that you want to be successful and you want to make money blogging, the most important thing you need to do right now is to stop.

Stop sabotaging yourself.

You have heard of the saying, “You are what you think.”?

Well it’s true.

Let’s look at this from another standpoint.

What if you wanted to be an actor or a professional athlete. Would you pursue your dream thinking to yourself, “If I don’t make it, that’s ok.”?

Or what if when replying to John Lennon’s question, “Where we going fellas?”, The Beatles answered, “To another pub gig.”, instead of enthusiastically replying, “To the top!”?

And what if Steve Jobs or any other inventor, didn’t believe or visualize their optimal outcomes and gave up when their first experiments failed?

Something wonderful happens when you believe in yourself and your blog.

And I know that can be really hard sometimes. Especially if you have been at this for awhile. But you must be really conscious of your thoughts and words. Yes. It is a matter of faking it it till you make it. Even inside your own head.

Because once you believe your blog is a business, you will act differently. You will make different decisions. You will write content your readers want. You will focus on what’s important and realize what tasks are a waste of time.

I believe in you.

You can make money blogging in 2019 and have a successful blog.

All you have to do is believe it too.

  1. This is very helpful! I’m launching my website/blog in a few weeks (end of Jan.) and am definitely looking at it as a business. I have a bit to do still with connecting Pinterest to my instagram and website, adding images, fine-tuning content, etc. It’s been a lot, but all good!
Thanks so much for the info!

    1. I am so excited for you! But honestly, don’t wait to launch! Do it now. Trust me when I say it will never be perfect and a year from now you will more than likely change everything up again. Your true learning won’t begin until you are live.

  2. Love the post, Elena! I starting blogging as a hobby in 2010 when I rescued my dog. Of course, my blogs evolved over the years and I get bit by the “let’s make some money” gig. Now, I have a business and I do blog but not like I did back in the day. I actually took a long sabbatical recently to regroup my head and quite frankly, missed the blogging aspect, plus networking with my fellow bloggers. Your post is spot on as usual. Hope you have a rockin’ new year!
