I was watching a video today and the presenter used the term “fail fast”. I was like, “How awesome is that?!”, and I immediately opened the notes app on my phone and typed it in so I wouldn’t forget it. I know many of you don’t want to hear the word fail when it comes to your blog but hear me out.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know that this is not my first blog I have created. It’s not the second either. Probably closer to the fourth. I’ve lost count. Lol And if you are a follower of other successful blogs, you will probably find at least one of two things, either the blogger has been blogging for a substantial amount of time or they have started several blogs before hitting on the magic formula that takes them from hobby to business. Sometimes, they have done both.
Why do I keep telling you this? Because I think it is so important for you to understand this:
- Never give up. If you want to become a full time blogger making money doing something you love, you have got to stick it out through the failures.
- You must recognize when something isn’t working and have the guts to pivot in order to keep moving forward.
Failure is not the end of your blogging career. It’s the beginning. And the more you can concept-ionize failure as a stepping stone to what’s next, the faster you can move on to creating a blog that has tons of pageviews and makes you money.
The only way to learn what will work, is to learn what doesn’t work first.
Very few people hit it out of the park on their first time up at bat. Cures are not found on the first trial run. And inventions do not go straight from idea to product without a lot of testing.
That’s why I love the phrase “fast fail”.
Let’s get it over with so we can move on.
Everyone’s journey to having blogging success is different. What works for some, may not work for you. But the one thing I can guarantee you is the same for all bloggers, is that they will have hits and misses. It is inevitable. The key is to learn how to turn that miss into a hit.
So don’t think for a moment that you won’t have failures as a blogger. You will. Sometimes daily. What you do after hitting that bump will determine your future success.
Obviously, if you quit, you’re done. You will never know what could have been.
But if you choose to look at that failure as a right of passage, you can turn it into a win!
- Analyze it.
- Learn from it.
- Adjust accordingly.
“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” – Robert F. Kennedy
The faster you learn to move through things that don’t work, the faster you can move forward. And the more you fail and pivot, the better you will get at it.
You can learn how to fail successfully.
So if you feel like you are failing at this whole blogging thing, I will allow you to wallow…for a minute.
Then I want you to get back to work, make changes and keep going.
You can do this! I know you can.
